It was gathered that Fayose, who initially  said he and his deputy would leave office that same ?time, changed his mind after being satisfied with the performance and loyalty of Olusola.

In 2014, when Fayose was contesting, he had promised that whoever was picked as his deputy would only serve a term with him and that somebody else would be chosen as the 2018 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Apart from loyalty and performance, Olusola, who is from Ikere-Ekiti, is favoured by hailing from Ekiti South Senatorial District, an area expected to produce the next governor of the state.

Many other top aspirants in the party are also from the zone.

They include the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Prince Ayo Adeyeye, former Acting Governor, Tunji Odeyemi, Ambassador Dare Bejide, Senat?e Deputy Minority Whip, Abiodun Olujimi and a host of others.
