Chelsea have completed the signing of Tiemoue Bakayokofrom Monaco in a deal worth £40million.

The 22-year-old has signed a five-year deal and will wear the No.14shirt.

The Premier League champions confirmed on Saturday that Bakayoko has joined the club after he successfully underwent a medical this week.

Manchester United were also interested in the midfielder, but Chelsea have managed to get one over old boss Jose Mourinho a week after missing out on No.1 summer target Romelu Lukaku.

Bakayoko, who plays in the defensive midfield role, will likely be paired up with N’Golo Kante at the heart of Conte’s team next season with Nemanja Matic expected to leave, potentially for Old Trafford. The 22-year-old thrived as Monaco won the Ligue 1 title last season, proving key in defence and attack – scoring three goals which included a fine header in the team’s 3-1 Champions League win over Manchester City in March.

The Frenchman, who has one senior cap to his name, recently credited Claude Makelele for helping him develop his skills after he admitted the former Chelsea star told him to focus and be calmer on the ball during his five-month stint as Monaco’s technical director in 2016.
