The Delta State Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has waded into the crisis rocking the Ughelli North branch of the Union, calling on all its members, interest groups particularly stakeholders to join force with Mr. Philip Olokpa led executive.
The state chairman, Mr. Anthony Igweborike stated this Friday, while speaking with journalists in Asaba on the crisis which have caused breach of peace in the area, noting that Mr. Olokpa emerged as chairman of the Ughelli branch Union via a free and fair elections conducted at the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Secretariat in Asaba on February 20th, 2012.
Mr. Igweborike noted that since his election, the Ughelli North branch chairman has been active in his duties in piloting the affairs of the Union.
“It is improper for anybody to take the law into his/ her hands, we the state body are on ground to tackle any problem in any of our branches,”
According to him, the host community, Otor-Iwreko and other communities in Ughelli North Local Government area should corporate with the present administration, stating that, “if there is any complaint regarding the Union, it should be channelled to the state council by the aggrieved or both parties for proper resolution”.
“It is improper for anybody to take the law into his/ her hands, we the state body are on ground to tackle any problem in any of our branches,” he warned
He said, “I strongly appeal to all and sundry to report any issue to us and we will handle it amicably to the benefit of all.”
Also commenting, the State Secretary noted that, issues of sanction could not have arise as Mr. Olokpa won the elections and urged all members of the drivers Union in the area to corporate with Olokpa and shun any act culpable of breaching the peace and security in the region.
