A group, People’s Movement, on Thursday disagreed with woman politician Chief Rita Lori Ogbebor on the character and conduct of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, saying the governor has continued to carry himself with grace and dignity without compromising his integrity.
The leaders in a statement signed by the Director of Communications of the People’s Movement, Mrs. Ibifuro Tatua expressed their disappointment over the incessant attack on the governor by Chief Ogbebor, vowing not to tolerate any action or intent that would bring confusion and create tension among the people.
The leaders described the never-ending attack on Governor Uduaghan by Chief Ogbebor and others as a feature of desperate politicians and some greedy elders in Delta State that have lost it to the forces of the people.
“Delta State can never be a property of a few selfish leaders and their shylock godfathers. Delta State can never be the property of desperate politicians and their collaborators. Delta State can never be the property of indifferent elite that do not bother about the running of the state but see money, contract and looting of the treasury as the ultimate motives for human existence” the leaders vowed.
The group bemoaned the pull him down syndrome by some elders against the governor, identifying the governor’s open and honest style of governance and his refusal to pander to the whims and caprices of the elite as the sources of his problems with them.
The group which also advised Chief Ogbebor and others not to fuel crises in the state through wide and baseless allegations, challenged the Igba of Warri to conduct herself as a responsible mother and elder by building and uniting her home and community.
“Politics can be played with a modicum of character, decorum, decency and civilised behaviour. We therefore appeal to disgruntled and attention seeking elders and politicians bent on destabilising the Delta State government to look elsewhere”
“Politics can be played with a modicum of character, decorum, decency and civilised behaviour. We therefore appeal to disgruntled and attention seeking elders and politicians bent on destabilising the Delta State government to look elsewhere” the statement said.
On the past five years in the state, the leaders said rather than engage in the prevalent norm of corruption and personal aggrandisement exhibited by those in transient positions of political authority, Governor Uduaghan opted for populist measures.
“We are fascinated by the quality of work on all projects executed by Uduaghan administration” they said.
They thanked the governor for his exemplary service, uncompromising commitment and unparalleled achievements, citing the present peace, joy and sense of belonging which have been seen and felt by the people as well as the massive infrastructural development in the rural and urban areas, adequate funding of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Delta State Micro- Credit Programme, the Asaba airport, job creation, sports progress, scholarship scheme, welfare of workers and industrial growth as developments that impacted on the life of the people.
“In Nigeria where many leaders have derailed from principled causes, Uduaghan stands very tall as a man of great moral rectitude. He is an upright Nigerian” the leaders said.
Rita Lori had rejected a cow gift for the christmas celebration from Governor Uduaghan on the ground that the state government should used the cost of the gift assist the less privileges in the society; but many believed that Rita Lori may have expected more than just a cow, hence the rejection.
