The Super Eagles of Nigerias narrowly escaped the sledge hammer of the Crioulos of Cape Verde against the expectations of pundits who thought Nigeria would just over-run her little known opponent. With five scoring chances against Nigeria’s lone attempt at the first 20 minutes, only God used the Nigerian goalie, Ejide to salvage what would have been difficult to describe. The Crioulos were no minions at all! Having eliminated Cameroon with a 3-2 goals’ aggregate for 2013 African Cup Nations’ preliminaries, and having played goalless with Luxembourg as well as Portugal’s full squad, Nigeria was in for a tough duel.
Nigeria showed flashes of a champion side in the second half with many scoring chances frittered away. For those who watched the match, it was really a good showing of what to expect in the AFCON 2013. Not less than five Yellow Cards were issued one of which exposed Nigeria’s Victor Moses’ unprofessional acts that almost resulted into a free for all fight! The Crioulos will meet with the tournament’s host, South Africa on the 19th of January, 2013 in the Group A encounter which parades Angola and Morocco also. Stephen Keshi, Nigeria’s coach will have to sharpen the attacking machine and tailor the midfield to respond to ball distribution. The two draws so far, only go to prove that without an outright win in a match, Nigeria will have a soar taste of its outing in South Africa. A stitch in time saves nine!
Capital One Cup
After 90 minutes of play, Chelsea was left to lick the wounds of a defeat by no less than a Swansea side with a o-2 loss. Both goals were scored in the different halves.
