Ahead of Saturday’s rerun elections into some National and State Assemblies seats in Rivers State, the State Governor, Mr Nyessom Wike and his colleagues in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have started a series of brainstorming sessions to ensure victory for their party’s candidates in the polls.

Checks by our correspondent revealed that in the light of the importance of the elections, members of the PDP Governors’ Forum are now in Port Harcourt, the state capital, to show solidarity for Wike and chip in points that could help their party.

For instance, the Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, on Tuesday evening left for Port Harcourt.

He was taken to the city from Akure Airport in Ondo State by a plane said to belong to the Rivers State Government.

Before leaving Ekiti State, Fayose, while speaking after presenting the 2017 Budget estimates to members of the House of Assembly, said the Federal Government was planning to put Wike under a sort of house arrest before and during the election to pave the way for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to manipulate the election in favour of their candidates.

?He had earlier raised the alarm that the Chief Security Officer to Wike had been withdrawn by the federal authorities so as to expose Wike to danger.

The elections had been marred with violence twice in the past and it was the threat by the Senate that it would abandon plenary if not concluded that forced the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fix a date.

INEC had dragged foot in conducting the polls.

The rerun polls arose as a result of the nullification of the results of the 2015 general elections in the affected areas.
