Adamawa Lost Over N7b To Insurgency

Secretary to the Adamawa state governor, Ibrahim Welye, has revealed that properties worth N7.3b have been destroyed by Boko Haram insurgents across five local government areas of Adamawa State when they held sway.

According to him, the affected local governments are Maiha, Mubi North, Mubi South, Gombi and Hong local governments.
Welye who made the revelation at a Multi Stakeholders Meeting on Internally Displaced Persons Return Process organised by the National Emergency Management Agency in conjunction with the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency,  added that the stakeholders meeting was convened to provide a roadmap for the safe return of the IDPs to their various communities.

According to him, the meeting was to enable the government have a firsthand information on the enormity of the problem in order to create a blueprint for the rehabilitation of the affected persons.

Director- General of NEMA represented by Director Disaster Risk Management of the agency, Alhaji Alhassan Nuhu in his speech, mentioned that the stakeholders’ meeting was organised in view of the uncoordinated movement of the IDPs back to their communities following the relative peace returning to their areas.

The Director-General pledged that the resolution arrived at the meeting would go a long way in filling the missing gaps in the process and also provide a durable solution to the IDPs as they return.

While deliberating on the issues, the DG urged stakeholders to be mindful of honour, respect, dignity and rights of the IDPs in conformity with the internal standardized convention and the guiding principles on internal displacement.
