Delta APC: Sheep Without Shepherds Or Shepherds Without Sheep?

In Delta APC, it does seem that not only does the party lack party discipline and unity, there are too many captains in their political boat. And the results are quite damning.

A check also indicates that these unceasingly contentious political gladiators lack similar or agreeable political ideologies, programmes, manifesto leading to a scenario where their thinning followers are constantly bemused or confused as to whom to show unalloyed loyalty and commitment.

Delta APC is perhaps, only reflecting the generally hazy political atmosphere haunting the Party down South of Nigeria.

Whereas, Buhari and Tinubu have tried to maintain a measure of control in the core North and South-West respectively, South South APC is yet to possess and project any political figure whose clout, charisma and reach are widely acknowledged and accepted.

Unfortunately, their situation is compounded further by the serial hypocrisy, betrayal, dithering and boot-licking propensities of their National Chairman bent always on retaining power at all costs.

Right from inception, it’s obvious that Delta APC has operated around the cult-like personae of Chief Emerhor. Hence, any time the man chooses to sneeze,Delta APC must compulsorily get ready to catch the flu.

I am among those who kept wishing that maybe one day, this Emerhor Paranoia which is a miniature of APC Buharia( my coinage for the 2015 Buhari political fever) would somehow translate into some electoral value for both the party and Deltans.

Alas, the Emerhor Factor so far, has remained more of a burden than a blessing.

The Chief has only succeeded in running the State apparatus as a fiefdom and in connivance with the State Party Chairman, has largely whittled down the influence, contributions and involvement of other relatively- powerful migrants like Chief Ogboru, Rt. Hon Ochei, Sen Omo- Agege etc.

The just concluded LG election in the State can only serve as an eye opener to the steadied deterioration afflicting Delta APC.

Whilst the election approached, it became very obvious that APC had no concrete preparation; no painstaking campaigns were carried out across wards and constituencies except for their usual media vituperations. The consequences eventually?

Most APC stalwarts decided that Chief Emerhor, was proper as the chief scapegoat. Rather than agree that they too failed in their responsibilities since only Chief Emerhor cannot take the blame for all it takes to build and lead a Party to electoral victory, they pondered to the option of the proverbial ostrich.

That they therefore say: ‘Chief Emerhor refused to release funds for the election ; he stifled every attempt to campaign vigorously’ and blabla, are all quite misplaced and inconsequential in excusing them from complicity and blame.

Well, its of no consequence to me that Delta APC is resorting to nothing but cheap blackmail aimed at discrediting the LG election even when they lost deservedly.

My only worry in the whole melodrama is that Deltans must now have to wait much longer to have the right opposition politics as expected from Delta APC.

The sectional Press Release by Chief Ogboru and Sen Omo- Agege can only lend credence to my prognosis. Rather than utilise the appropriate structures of the Party Secretary or PRO, they went solo further fuelling the insinuations of a gaping factionalization and divisiveness in their midst.

Lastly, are Deltans to get ready for another APC barrage of shenanigans and manipulation come 2019?

I think that it’s necessary to ask going by the APC rhetoric that since Gov Okowa and PDP allegedly ‘ rigged’ the LG election that the latter should wait for their almighty INEC which is sure to correct the ‘ injustice’ in 2019.

I certainly have no fears about such infantile predictions anyway. They will definitely not stand. After all, APC should recognise that every election is first won at the grassroots and so their near- absence at same grassroots will see to the inevitability of their electoral defeat.

However, one needs to question and ascertain this: could this threat be a veiled ploy portending that Delta APC ( in connivance with their Federal APC) might likely be forcing their way through in 2019 even if it means the spilling of the blood of monkeys, baboons and beloved Deltans?

Deltans indeed deserve to know.
