More facts have emerged why Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko is encouraging a member of the House of Representatives from Ekiti State, Mr. Opeyemi Bamidele to contest against the incumbent Governor, Mr. Kayode Fayemi in the coming gubernatorial election in the state.

FrontiersNews gathered exclusively that Governor Mimiko was displeased with the way Governor Fayemi allegedly financed Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria Candidate in the last governorship election in Ondo State.

Mr. Fayemi and his colleagues in the South West were said to have contributed N250 million each to finance Akeredolu’s campaign.

The contribution made by Fayemi, it was gathered infuriated Mimiko who has vowed to pay him back in his own coins.

Both Fayemi and Mimiko used to be the best friends before the Ondo State gubernatorial election in 2012.

Mimiko was said to have assisted Fayemi financially before he regained his stolen mandate at the law court.

The cordial relationship between the duo then made Fayemi to first moved to the Ondo State Government House immediately former Governor Segun Oni was sacked by the court where he celebrated his victory with Governor Mimiko

In fact, Fayemi and his supporters were hosted to a lavish party at the Ondo Government House by Mimiko.

However, the Ondo State governorship election has pitched the two former friends against each other.

Another source however told FrontiersNews that Governor Mimiko is backing Bamidele on the instruction of President Goodluck Jonathan who is not convenient with the rising profile of All Progressives Congress (APC).

The President was said to have ordered Mimiko who is one of his loyalists to cause unnecessary acrimony among members of the APC to pave the way for the candidate picked by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

As at the last count, Mimiko and Opeyemi Bamidele had met secretly seven times between August and October to discuss the possibility of Bamidele flying the flag of the Labour Party in the 2014 Governorship election in Ekiti State.
