As states of the federation are battling to pay workers’ salaries over dwindling revenue from the federation account, each of the 17 local government areas in Enugu State are saddled with additional responsibilities of raising about N2 billion to organise special thank you homage to the immediate past Governor of the state, Mr. Sullivan Chime.

FrontiersNews investigations revealed that the 17 Local Government Areas would have to cough out about N2 billion for the exercise.

At the head of the delegation are the new governor of the state, Mr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the immediate past deputy senate president, Mr Ike Ekweremadu and chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, the newly elected senators and house of representatives members from Enugu as well as members of the state house of assembly.

Our sources hinted that each of the local government areas has been mandated to procure vehicles, six sizeable cows, assorted champagnes, wines, spirits as well as other gift items that may cost the 17 Local Government bosses about N2 billion naira.

It was gathered that each of the senatorial district was also mandated to draft 100 prominent sons and daughters to accompany the gift items to the ceremony. ?

Frontiersnews gathered that the real reason for the homage was to thank Mr. Chime for his successful tenure as governor of Enugu State as well as for giving ‘Gburugburu’ the opportunity to succeed him as the governor of the state. ?

Our correspondent gathered that delegates from Enugu East Senatorial District have already undertaken the ‘homage’ to their new ‘political godfather’ while delegates from Enugu West and Enugu North Senatorial Districts are said to be warming up for their turn.

Mr. Ekweremadu, who represents Enugu West Senatorial District according to inside sources is said to be making elaborate plans to impress the new ‘political leader’ durinng the visit for giving him political lifeline in the present democratic dispensation.

Observers are however of the view that Governor Ugwuanyi who was yet to make any serious political appointments since he took the oath of office on May 29, 2015, should rather be busy mapping out strategies to meet the yearning of his people than organizing thank-you visits to his predecessor.
