Police Arraign Woman, 51 for Attempted Suicide

The police on Monday arraigned a 51-year-old textile merchant,  Titilayo Momoh, who attempted to commit suicide by jumping into the  third mainland bridge lagoon, in an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’  Court.

The accused, who was arraigned on a one-count charge of attempting to  commit suicide, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to her in  court.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Omisakin told the court that the accused  had committed the offence on March 24 at about 10.00 a.m., at third  mainland bridge in Lagos.

The accused had revealed during investigation that she intended to cut  short her life to put an end to her sleepless nights.

She said that life has not been the same for her since she was duped  of the sum of N18.7 million by a bureau de change operator sometime in 2015.

The offences contravened Section 235 of the Criminal law of Lagos States, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr A.T Elias admitted the accused to a bail of  N500,000 with two responsible sureties in the like sum.

Elias also said that she should be taking to a psychiatric home for  evaluation and adjourned the case to June 1 for mention.
