kaduna_woman_fpNo fewer than 26 persons have been reported killed and properties destroyed in serial attacks on the Berom people of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Report indicated that the attacks, suspected to have been perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen, were simultaneously carried out on seven consecutive days between October 2 and 10.

The villages attacked included Law, Shonong, Fang, Dum, Chenengye, Rakweng, Diyan, Rachi and Sharubutu in Bachi District of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Consequently, the national leadership of the Berom Youth Movement has condemned in strong terms the persistent and systematic attacks of its people, describing it as an open declaration of war for no justifiable reason.

According to a statement on Friday by its National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Rwang Dalyop Dantong, over 100 houses were reportedly set ablaze in the attacks.

Dantong said those killed in the attacks were mostly pregnant women and children, expressing worry that the insurgency is always linked to Fulani herdsmen living with their communities.

He called on the government to intervene by posting a good number of operatives of the Special Task Force in the state to the troubled zone to curb the menace.
