1.               It is my honour and privilege, on behalf of His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and his lovely wife to welcome you all to this 54th Independence Anniversary Celebration Dinner.

2.               Usually, for all Nigerians and indeed for our friends, at home and abroad; our Independence anniversaries provide opportunity for us to reflect on the past, assess the present and project into the future. Events over the last couple of days, and in particular,  earlier today, Mr. President has through his activities and the national broadcast spoken very eloquently on our national experience, our times and our hopes.

3.               The sub-theme of tonight’s artistic and multimedia presentations is about Nigerian heritage. It was deliberately chosen. Mr. President desires us to relax and hear the voices of our children. He wants us to reflect on and appreciate our rich cultural and natural heritage, and to understand that these are the foundations of the unfolding transformation of this blessed nation. In so doing, let us share his immense pride in our heritage, our values, national identity and common purpose. Let us appreciate the artistic creative and technological innovations; the human capacity development, national power and abiding unity that make being a Nigerian a national pride.

4.               Our heritage is the unbroken chain that links the present age to our past generations. In that sense, we are mindful that we stand on the shoulders of those that have been here before us. We are grateful to all leaders and citizens, especially for all that worked hard to bequeath us a nation of great promise.

5.               We are mindful of the challenge of the moment, namely, to honour our past, transform Nigeria and assure a better tomorrow for all our citizens.  Mr. President has provided the vision, leadership and effectively transformed Nigeria from a nation of great potentials to one of outstanding achievements. All around us, we see the evidence of national transformation in every facet of our national life. This is evident in the steady growth of the economy, infrastructure, power sector reforms, agriculture, education, healthcare delivery, banking and financial services and the re-invigoration of governance institutions. Indeed, the entire society is undergoing positive change.

6.               Our giant strides and achievements are made more remarkable because they come against a backdrop of the wanton, callous and mindless onslaught by terrorists and insurgents. We thank all Nigerians and all our friends for your support. Indeed, your understanding strengthens our determination to wipe out these dark and evil forces. It is our earnest hope that peace and normalcy will soon be restored in the North-Eastern part of the country so that the whole country will once more be a happy family.

7.               Tonight, we reflect on our past. We learn its lesson and build on our heritage. We claim a glorious future for Nigeria. This government, under Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has planned the work; and we are steadily working on the plan to transform Nigeria. We shall succeed because we are a nation of creative, resilient, strong, hopeful and united people.

8.               Mr. President, Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, my fellow compatriots, I welcome you all to our Independence Anniversary Dinner. Please enjoy your evening.

9.               God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
